In the past five years there has been enourmous growth in web analytics related events, starting with web anlaytics wednesdays, Vendor events like Omniture summit, WebTrends Engage, Emetrics and few more.

I have been fortunate enough to attend few of these event travlleing all the way from India, However here’s a conference which is dedicated to Web Anlaytics Industry, and if you are a part of web analytics industry and want to a peak on what’s coming next, this event is certainly a must attend!

Here’s the icing on the cake, for all our readers here’s a discount coupon “XCTATVIC” which gives you 20% off on your registration, Get Started here

The X Change conference is the web analytics industry’s premier gathering, specifically targeting experts and those practitioners who are serious about digital measurement. Past participants include Best Buy, Schwab, AOL, PayPal, Turner, Intuit, Yahoo!, Avaya, The Gap, and many more.

It was initiated in year 2008 with joint effort of Semphonic and Web Analytics Demystified with the aim of bringing together a selective group of the best minds in web measurement for in-depth conversation in a unique peer to peer format.

Three Reason to attend the Xchange Conference 2009

Founding Father’s Keynote Speech

This time X Change Conference Announces its first ever gathering of the Web Analytics’s industry trailblazers Brett Crosby (Google), Matt Cutler (Visible Measures), Bob Page (Yahoo!), and John Pestana (ObservePoint) also known as “Founding Fathers of digital measurement” at X Change 2009.

Collectively, these four have had a hand in the vast majority of web and video measurement on the Internet. These “Founding Fathers Keynote Panel” members would talk about what they hoped to accomplish years ago, how they see the industry today, and where they think the digital measurement industry is heading.

Discussions in Huddles

X CHANGE is made up of small group conversations or “huddles” where participants join 12 to 15 fellow professionals and a facilitator who is considered as an expert in his/her field. Together they explore common problems and possible solutions. Choosing Huddle you want to be in is absolutely flexible.

It’s a fantastic opportunity to TALK and WORK in-depth with the best practitioners in areas they are most expert. Panel includes some of the renowned web analytics professionals from AOL, Barclays, Best Buy, Charles Schwab, Discovery, Forrester, HP, Intuit, Kohler, Nokia, Turner Broadcasting and The New York Times.

Think Tank Training

It is a unique opportunity to leapfrog countless hours of training with our 1 day Advance web analytics training and definitely an unmatched opportunity unavailable anywhere else.
The aim of this conference is to provide a unique experience tailored to web analytics Professionals and it would create unusual, personal, more reflective session for X Change’s deep, conversation-based explorations of the key issues in web analytics says “Eric Peterson co-sponsor of X Change Conference and CEO of “Web Analytics Demystified”

There’s a conversation going on on having a separte web analytics association for Europe. Just to give a background Web Analytics Association is been around for quite some time formed in 2003 by leading web anlaytics professionals to tackle standards, advocacy, education and events.

The recent conversation over Eric Peterson’s blog to have a separate EUWAA raised lot’s of questions and some really intresting thoughts on how it can be beneficial and also the drawbacks of doing the same.

Excerpts from Eric’s Blog

A sister organization in Europe, one governed by a European Board of Directors and funded primarily by European vendors and consulting firms, would invariably be better able to serve the needs of specific markets at different stages of analytics maturity. The EuWAA could set country-specific pricing, have both regional and pan-European events, and make decisions that were carefully focused on the needs of different European constituencies

I have not been a member of WAA, so my “thoughts would be as an indiviual”, ok now let’s speak in terms of India and for Web Analytics Developing nations.

I totally agree with Eric on this, but how about countries like India where Web Analytics is starting to gain importance, i feel it’s “very important” for countries developing in Web analytics have access and are exposed to WAA and all it’s sister organization Why ?

1.) Web analytics developing countries look to learn from US and EU counterparts!

2.) Both US and EU have their own culture and areas of importance!, one intresting aspect which is similar between EU countries and “India” is the number of languages ( 22 in India alone) so we have a lot to learn from them ? right?

Excerpts from Julien Coquet post on Web analytics in Europe, which probably applies to Indian scenario helps me prove the 2nd point.

when it comes to measuring and analysing online behavior, there are linguistic and cultural aspects that must not be overlooked

3.) Helps us to understand the frequent pit falls these countries have seen during their “initial days in web analytics”

4.) Help Understand which metrics require regional approaches, What were their experience with these? and so on..

Jim Sterne! also wrote about this and has some intresting views, there’s no doubt WAA board has been doing a excellent job and i can “guarantee” you Jim and WAA board that web analyts in India find WAA site ( without being a member) quite informative and good place to start and understand Web Analytics!

This is certainly not going to happen overnight, but i sincerly hope the WAA and EU counterpart keep these points in mind no matter what the decicison is made.

• Cross-segmentation options similar to Google Analytics
• E-commerce and campaign tracking included (no longer requiring additional modules)
• Vastly improved embedded scheduler to more easily manage processing and re-processing jobs
• Improved user interface
• More robust log processing engine

In an interesting article on CMS Watch, All the analyst come together to offers 12 predictions that they think will shape content technologies in 2008.

here’s an overview of the Predictions, and you can read the entire article at Twelve Predictions for 2008 . Most of the predictions applies globally however some are country specific. So here are my views (in quotes) on three important predictions with respect to India Internet market (Web 2.0 Exhaustion, Web Analytics and Search )

1.) Archiving becomes a prime focus for ECM vendors
Whether e-mails or regular documents, the need to shift large volumes of dated and dormant data to compliant archives is becoming an IT priority.

2.) Google will make a bid to become the World’s Content Repository
Seeing the enormous archiving opportunity, and leveraging their own unique computing capacities, Google will offer to store anyone’s data, of any kind (in any quantity), and make it queryable via SQL, XQuery, keyword search, and/or other options.

3.) MOSS enters the valley of disappointment
SharePoint will continue to grow at viral rates as a low cost, low touch, document collaboration system. But in 2008 we will see the start of a noticeable backlash, particularly among larger enterprises.

4.) Return of the buyers’ market
After years of ubiquitous scarcity among experienced consultants and product integrators, a slowing world economy could give buyers more options in the search for good services support

5.) Web 2.0 exhaustion
“Web 2.0″ will finally garner enough momentum to have everyone fall asleep at the slightest mention of the term. Already usage of the term seems to be subsiding, even as some of the underlying concepts (user-generated content, web-based social networking, AJAX interfaces, and so on…) become more ubiquitous.

Web 2.0 is new in India!, but IMHO most of the India internet population now would have not seen the Web 1.0 (now that term never existed, but whatever was before web 2.0) Web 2.0 Technologies like Ajax, flash, Ruby on Rails are picking up, the old html sites are changing and adapting these technologies, Social networking is growing!, targeting regional audience. So 2008 India Online market will see a increasing trend in adapting web 2.0 Technologies.

6.) Social Software vendor collision
So what is replacing Web 2.0? You got it: “Enterprise 2.0″ Like its predecessor, the term is vague, but the phenomenon is real. And there are vendor battles brewing.

7.) Facebook backlash in the enterprise
Facebook is growing at stratospheric rates, with substantial momentum among professionals in general and media and technology companies in particular, the latter in some cases looking to supplement or replace their Intranets with this exciting (and free) new collaboration and social networking platform. Other enterprises will experiment in their wake, and in many cases, will retreat in disappointment.

8.) Security and Identity Management trump functionality for buyers
Security and Information Rights Management will become areas of key focus for those managing large ECM implementations

9.)Finally bridging web analytics and online marketing
2007 was the year that web analytics vendors talked about tighter integration with online marketing vendors. 2008 will be the year that companies begin to buy into the promise of this integration.
Analytics vendors are continuing to productize their APIs after ironing out initial integration issues. Customers are starting to mature their analytics beyond basic reporting — to guide targeted e-mails, personalized offers, and focused segmentation.

In 2008, Web Analytics is India will start forming an integeral part of Online marketing, Internet based companies will start reviewing various paid web analytics options available in the market and implement them. Although it will still take time realize the Power of Web Analytics, Companies will use Web Analytics to understand traffic and initial assessment of their website performance.

This inturn will churn many Web Analytics startups consulting firm offering Analytics Implementation, Support and Analysis support. 2008 will also see many web analytics vendor entering India, to add to the current web analytics vendor.

10.) Search is dead….Not!
In 2008 you’ll hear vast pronouncements that “search is dead,” particularly as enterprise search vendors’ marketing continues to shift en masse towards the concept of “information access platforms.” This is a chimera.

Search is going to be big in India, specifically local search. There are many startups in India (Guruji.com, OnYoMo.com, JustDial.com, AskLaila.com), with Internet population growing at tremendous rate local search will grow reaching local audience. Search Marketing and SEO has always existed in India, but year 2008 will see a increase in consulting firms providing SEM and SEO solutions. Indeed a great year for the Online Market in India.

11.) Productization of Search Platforms
Though there’s a clear sense of a return to search basics, at the same time the Google Appliance — whatever its limitations — still has other vendors in a fit. Google can deliver a turn-key solution that will start indexing within the hour of receiving the shiny box.
